Computer Sciences as school subject

Dear colleagues,,Today I am going to talk about computer sciences as one of the subjects which is teach for the secondary school students as a part of their assessment ,, To go deep in this topic we need to know many things. Nowadays many teenagers or even kids know about How to use computer at least they know the basics about it

First what is computer sciences:
Computer science is the study of the theory, experimentation, and engineering that form the basis for the design and use of computers. It is the scientific and practical approach to computation and its applications and the systematic study of the feasibility, structure, expression, and mechanization of the methodical procedures (or algorithms) that underlie the acquisition, representation, processing, storage, communication of, and access to information. An alternate, more succinct definition of computer science is the study of automating algorithmic processes that scale. A computer scientist specializes in the theory of computation and the design of computational systems.[1]
Computer science in secondary schools is an area of increasing interest and concern to educators as well as to computer science professionals. But the most important question Why we teach computer sciences in our schools and is it really useful and implemented practically or it is just a theoretical subject? from my reflective experience when I was student Teaching computer is useful for students it can help them to prepare them
self to future as we know nowadays we use computers in every sectors and it is
required in many institutions to have a job but unfortunately it is not implemented in many schools for many reasons and I will talk about this challenges and how we can fix it .

The challenges that face implementing of I.C.T in our schools:
  • The availability of the computer devices.
  • Qualified teacher.
  • The fund to repair and fix any problem in computers
  • Ministry of education didn't make workshop or training courses for teachers to be updated to the new.
  •  Curriculum developers should make computer education one of the core subjects to be offered in secondary schools.
I wish if this subject is provided for preschool children and primary school students .

Electronic Portfolio

Good morning my colleagues ,,,,, Today I am going to talk about E-Portfolio which is demanded as assignment in this module and many of us  don't know about it ,,,,, for me the first time i hear about was in this module from Dr. Emad that why i like to search and know well about .

Firstly we have to define E-Portfolio: E portfolio is a collection of work developed across varied contexts over time. The portfolio can advance learning by providing students and/or faculty with a way to organize, archive and display pieces of work.

The electronic format allows faculty and other professionals to evaluate student portfolios using technology, which may include the Internet, CD- ROM, video, animation or audio. Electronic portfolios are becoming a popular alternative to traditional paper-based portfolios because they offer practitioners and peers the opportunity to review, communicate and assess portfolios in an asynchronous manner.

Most people are familiar with student portfolios, however, higher education institutions are starting to create departmental and institutional portfolios as a means for evaluating student learning on a more global level. Institutional portfolios provide a means of assessing the impact of the entire educational experience on student learning. They can be used to drive internal improvement and external accountability. Like student portfolios, they allow for internal improvement and external accountability, but on the level of the whole institution.

Secondly we have to know why we use it?

Last thing we need to know about is the types  and benefits of using E-portfolio:

There are three types of portfolios: developmental, assessment and showcase:

Developmental Portfolios: demonstrate the advancement and development of student skills over a period of time. Developmental portfolios are considered works-in-progress and include both self-assessment and reflection/feedback elements. The primary purpose is to provide communication between students and faculty.

Assessment Portfolios: demonstrate student competence and skill for well-defined areas. These may be end-of-course or program assessments primarily for evaluating student performance. The primary purpose is to evaluate student competency as defined by program standards and outcomes.

Showcase Portfolios: demonstrate exemplary work and student skills. This type of portfolio is created at the end of a program to highlight the quality of student work. Students typically show this portfolio to potential employers to gain employment at the end of a degree program.

Hybrids: Most portfolios are hybrids of the three types of portfolios listed above. Rarely will you find a portfolio that is strictly used for assessment, development or showcase purposes. Occasionally, you may come across showcase portfolios that do not show evidence of self-reflection, rubrics for assessment or feedback, however, as Helen Barrett, an expert in the field of e-portfolios, would say "a portfolio without standards, goals and/or reflection is just a fancy resume, not an electronic portfolio."

Self-reflection is an important component of electronic portfolio development. If you do not require participants to self-reflect on the artifacts they add to the portfolio, they will not gain from the rich learning experience provided.

There are some basics should be included in E-portfolio:
  • Student Information: name, contact information, major, graduation date, etc.
  • Table of Contents: or various way to display links to contents of the portfolio
  • Learner Goals
  • Curricular standards and/or criteria: used to align the contents of the portfolio to institutional, departmental or course curriculum (often accomplished by rubrics)
  • Rubrics: can be used to assess student work. A rubric is a criteria-rating scale, which provides the instructor with a tool to track student performance. They also inform students of the course/departmental/institutional expectations.
  • Guidelines: used to select appropriate artifacts to keep the collection from growing haphazardly
  • Artifacts: examples of student work including documents, images, video, audio, etc. (can be chosen by student, instructor or both)
  • Instructor feedback
  • Self-reflection pieces: a portfolio without reflections is just a multimedia presentation or an electronic resume

Here is sample of E-portfolio to make it clear

Use of Animations in education

Good morning every one today I would like to talk about an effective tool in e-learning which i think it is attractive,, instructional and illustrative
Animation is an important component of multimedia , it illustrate and deliver information in a simple and attractive way also it can solve the problems and many critical issues for kids and young ... I will talk about it and how it helps kids and students in learning process.
For early childhood education we use it for storytelling and teaching  it helps kids to  concentrate and being exciting .

For primary school education it can be used for teaching  science, geography and Math and i uploaded  this video to make it clear

For secondary school students  teachers an use  animations in lessons to  promote creativity and present his / her subject in a developed way

In university it is also applied for many students and teachers especially in Medicine and Art colleges

Why we use an interactive board with the preschool children

Using of an interactive board provide a new learning environment (sharing ideas, videos, audios, images and animations) learning process can be more powerful if it was multi-modal. I-board increases their enjoyment by being physically involved They can touch and move objects also also they strengthen their hand muscles by using pen in drawing or tracing in the screen . other point is the size of scrhttp://monicavolb.weebly.com/blog/3-ways-to-use-a-smart-board-in-your-preschool-classroom-todayeen which make things obvious to every one in the class children can see , interact and participate.ٍSome kids don't react and communicate with their teachers and classmates using of i-board attract them to share with others. Last point which i want to talk about is the attention span for those children which is short they can feel bored easily unless you engage them in different activities You as teacher should be creative and multi-modal as i said before .   MORE INFORMATION SIGN TO THIS LINKS:http://ictearlyyears.e2bn.org/resources_71.html         http://monicavolb.weebly.com/blog/3-ways-to-use-a-smart-board-in-your-preschool-classroom-today,,,,,,                                               https://www.youtube.com  /watch?v=RYuIh2IduDk
